    Responsibilities & Requirements
  • Employers participating in the Landscape Ontario Apprenticeship Program agree to: 

    1. Register all apprentice(s) with the Landscape Ontario Apprenticeship Program;
    2. Abide by the standards set forth in the Landscape Ontario Code of Ethics and this agreement;
    3. Comply with all relevant Provincial employment legislation;
    4. Provide a safe workplace for all apprentice(s) and employees; 
    5. Support and maintain on the job trainers committed to the development and progression of apprentice(s);
    6. Provide training to the apprentice(s) and sign the training standard log book as competencies are achieved;
    7. Release the apprentice(s) for in-class training;
    8. Work in coordination with the LO Apprenticeship team and partner organizations to support apprentice(s);
    9. Update LO of any contact information changes; or change in the status of the apprentice(s);
    10. Support the apprentice(s) to complete their apprenticeship and achieve their Certificate of Qualification;
    11. Support trainer in participating in an “On The Job” training seminar offered by Landscape Ontario;
    12. Communicate and correspond with Landscape Ontario about apprentices registered to your company.
    13. Maintain active Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) participation
    14. Maintain Reasonable commercial liability and automotive insurance

I agree to comply with the responsibilities and requirements set forth in this agreement above, and that all information provided within this document is accurate and true. I have the authority to enter into this agreement on behalf of the company and to bind the company with this agreement.

    Members are encouraged and expected to observe these principles in spirit as well as letter.

    • To provide other members with helpful, constructive and professional advice, coaching and mentorship when necessary in order to improve the professional reputation and image of the industry.

    • Members have an obligation to deliver goods and services in an efficient and cost-effective manner (according to contract specifications) in order to protect the client's interest while maintaining acceptable standards.
    • Members advertising shall be neither false nor in any way misleading.
    • Members shall respect and improve the environment.
    • Members shall treat employees fairly, honestly and lawfully.
    • Members shall not make false or malicious statements that may injure the professional reputation of other members.
    • Members shall endeavour to attract to the profession, individuals with a high degree of honesty, courtesy, integrity and competence.
    • Members shall meet their obligations and responsibilities to clients, suppliers and employees.

     

    LO APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM PRINCIPLES:

    • Employers will abide by the Code of Ethics & Principles and the Member Registration Application.
    • Employers will support and provide training of apprentice(s) as per program requirements.
    • Employers will promote the apprenticeship program to eligible candidates within their company.

    The Horticultural Technician 441C Apprenticeship Program is currently funded in part by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario. This funding allows Landscape Ontario to support apprentices and employers with training, registration and case management support.

    Landscape Ontario is a registered Group Sponsor with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) for the Apprenticeship Program. As the Group Sponsor, we are required to validate employers eligibility to sponsor apprentices in this trade. Please confirm your company’s eligibility by checking the corresponding box beside each statement.

    Are individuals employed by the employer sponsor, who will provide on-the-job training to registered apprentices and support the completion of the apprentice(s) Training Standard as competencies are achieved. Trainers are deemed eligible by the criteria set forth in the 441C Horticultural Technician Apprenticeship Program Training Standard Guidelines to train apprentices.

     

    Trainer Eligibility:

    • A Journeyperson in 441C AND/OR Certificate of Apprenticeship in 441C AND/OR Have:
    • Acquired over 6000 hours of direct on the job industry training AND can provide skills competency in majority of mandatory (unshaded) skills as identified in the Competency Analysis Profile (CAP) chart AND
    • can provide proof of competency in 50% of the shaded skills as identified in the CAP Skills sets
